BigSMS (Send Long SMS)

Tool allowing you to send texts larger than most stock Android smartphones.

Important Information (PLEASE READ):

A fundamental source code change in Android OS is causing BigSMS to fail on certain Jelly Bean/Kit Kat ROM's. I am actively pursuing a fix however because this is an OS change it is out of my hands. I will keep everyone updated as and when I know.

BigSMS is confirmed to work on:

1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3.x, 4.01-4.04

On Jelly Bean/KitKat it is also working on Nexus phones.

I am looking to rebuild BigSMS for Jelly Bean < phones only, which will include a new interface. This project will commence shortly. Please contact me for more details.

This tool was designed to address the message size problem on the majority of Android ROM's.

On most un-rooted Android smartphones, a text message exceeding three times the standard length is converted into an MMS. Network providers/phone manufacturers often prevent users from accessing the menu required to change this setting. As such, owners are left with the choice of rooting their new smartphone (voiding the warranty), installing a bloated SMS client from the Android Market (offering very little extra functionality) or gritting their teeth and bearing it (paying more in the process). This app solves that problem. You can send a text message of unlimited length using the simple interface provided.

Lightweight, fast and simple to use. Not bulky like other bloated SMS clients on Market.

Developed using standard Android API's making it compatible with almost every GSM/CDMA enabled Android device available. (1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3.x with future support for 4.x expected if problem still exists).

I used a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 running 2.3 Gingerbread, and the Android emulator running 1.6, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.1 to test and debug this software. Please comment on how it performs and looks on your device.

To enhance QWERTY keypad support, this software was tested using a HTC ChaCha but should support the HTC Desire Z and other QWERTY devices.
